Detroit Red Wings vs. Edmonton Oilers 10/27

Overview

Yesterday was just not a great showing from the boys. It has now been consecutive games, where the Red Wings continue to get dominated in the shot column. On top of that, the first period has been a big struggle, with the Wings going down 1-0 in 6 of their last 6 games. While they have done a great job bouncing back after the slow starts, that’s just unacceptable moving forward. On top of all of this, nothing could go the Red Wings way, with all of the puck luck on the Sabres side. With 2 of the Sabres non-empty net goals deflecting off of our defensemen. The powerplay didn’t get a ton of moments to shine, but Raymond did notch the first shorty of the season to tie the game at 3 apiece. With a sloppy game overall by the Wings, I’m hoping they can bounce back at home, which they’ve excelled at this season.

We ended the day with both picks losing, along with the Wings evening out their record at 4-4. Our season total drops down to up 3 units, but hopefully, we can continue to build on that tonight. My good friend Alex Jones may have won this first matchup, but I expect the next two matchups to be good battles. With a long season in front of us, we must look ahead and continue to grind out these early points. Tonight marks our first back-to-back game of the season, with the Red Wings welcoming the Stanley Cup runners-up, the Edmonton Oilers. The Oil has started out very slow this season at 3-4-1, while captain Connor McDavid continues to impress averaging a point a game.

Predictions

After a quick trip back home it will be tough to see much change in how this game is going to go compared to the last few. The Oilers are a very quick team, and with the Wings on little rest, I expect a ton of shots against them. However, maybe a quick bounce-back game is what the Wings need to come out fast and not get dominated in the first period. As it has gone recently, Cam Talbot will likely swap back in net, which is good because he is well-rested, but with Lyon’s positive play recently, I would’ve liked to see him get his get back. With home ice tonight in Detroit, maybe we can see the powerplay unit out there more, compared to the minimal 2 opportunities they got in Buffalo. I expect a good battle tonight coming off of a disappointing loss the day before.

With how the recent games have gone, I expect a ton of shots on net from the Oilers tonight. While I haven’t done this yet, I will be adding a player from the opposing team to get some stats for our parlay. I’m looking at veteran Jeff Skinner, who leads the team in the shots-on-goal category. His total for the games at 2.5, so I expect him to get this with ease. Along with Skinner, I expect a little more production from Captain Larkin, who hasn’t hit his final form yet this season. The team total tonight is 2.5, which the Wings have hit in 5 of their 8 games this season, so a point tonight from Larkin should help seal the deal on tonight’s parlay.

Parlay

Red Wings TT o2.5

Dylan Larkin o0.5 points

Jeff Skinner o2.5 SOG

+325 (1u)
