Detroit Red Wings vs. New Jersey Devils 10/24

Overview

Wow, talk about a gritty win on Tuesday. As a lot of Islanders games go, the Red Wings kept it extremely boring, only getting 11 shots on goal but getting the 1-0 win. Only six games in, and we already have two different goalies with shutout wins. Lyon played phenomenally, stopping all of the 30 shots that came his way. While we didn’t do much offensively, there were still a ton of positives from the night. Legend Patrick Kane got his first of the season, getting the assist from Tarasenko, who appears to be back in his Blues self. It seems like the team wanted to focus more on defense this game, which doesn’t matter to me as long as they get the win. It looks like when we focus more on offense, scoring 4 or more goals, we always somehow manage to lose those games, so I’ll take it.

Unfortunately, we had to add a loss to our prediction column, but it’s tough to predict a goal scorer in a 1-0 game. On the season we are still up 1.5 units overall, so that keeps me motivated to do better. Tonight will be a good opportunity to get those units up as the Red Wings host the New Jersey Devils in Little Caesars Arena. The Devils are very solid offensively, so that will definitely be in the back of my mind tonight as I make my picks. I expect fireworks tonight in Detroit, especially compared to the last game where everyone watching probably fell asleep.

Predictions

The lineup isn’t currently out at the time I’m writing this, but I’m assuming that Lalonde will once again put Lyon in the crease. He’s played very solid the last 2 games, only allowing 2 goals on 69 shots. Nice. However, this isn’t going to go the same way as those games, as the Devils put a ton of pucks in the back of the net. While I like Kaner playing on Tarasenko’s line because it seems like we play much better defensively, tonight we are going to have to go goal for goal with the Devils. This means stacking the top 2 lines and making sure we’re capitalizing on the powerplay.

All signs tonight point towards the over, as the Wings are due to put 4+ in the back of the net. We know the Devils are going to tuck at least 3, so getting in at over 6.5 goals is definitely the move tonight. We are going to keep it simple with our bet tonight and combine that with Lucas Raymond to get a point. I’m very confident in this so I will be making this pick a 2 unit play. Like the Red Wings, we’re also due to go on a nice little run here to close out October.

Parlay

Lucas Raymond o0.5 points

Game Total o6.5 goals
