Detroit Red Wings vs. New Jersey Devils 11/29

Updated: Dec 1, 2024

Recap

Are the Wings gritty again? They absolutely just dominated the Flames in all aspects off the game. They outshot them 27-25, outhit them 17-11, outblocked them 18-14, and won 10 more faceoffs than them. It was a game that we know that they are capable of playing, and despite the refs trying their best in the third to keep the Flames in it, they persevered through it all. With Debrincat’s goal coming early in the game, those next few periods were one of the most grueling experiences of my life. I was so sure that Talby was going to get his shutout, until the refs decided to give the Flames their fourth powerplay of the night, leading to the tying goal. Thankfully, the new clutch god in Detroit, Lucas Raymond, decided to take things into his own hands and end the game before the shootout. My only complaint falls on the man that I hate most, Coach Lalonde. I hate I hate I hate when we have a lead in the third period, and he has the team play total defense. We are basically holding on for our lives for 20 minutes, while teams just build momentum. It is brutal to watch, and I don’t understand how he doesn’t get enough flak for it. However, I saw a comment about how this was the same way we treated Harbaugh at Michigan, so I am willing to give him a chance if he can turn this season around.

There’s not much to talk about when it comes to our picks. The Ras pick was close a few times, but that was more so just a little flyer pick to heat check myself. He did end up with an apple on the first goal, and was surprisingly on the powerplay 1 in Kane’s absence, but ultimately couldn’t get it done. Our other pick was so close to hitting, but as I said above, it was essentially a ticking time bomb for the Flames to tie it, since they had a ton of powerplay looks. In the end, we did end up losing a few units last night, but with how the game went, I’m totally fine with losing a few in a big win.

Prediction

Tonight we meet up with a familiar foe, who we embarrassed the last time we played them. We were blessed with that iconic pic of Ras standing over that little bitch Jack Hughes. Both teams have been on a different trajectory since that game, with the Wings faltering and the Devils soaring, but things are looking up for Wings on Black Friday. They enter this game on a good little run, with a good history this season of beating teams that they have already beat earlier in the season. With Kane being out the last two games, the offense has looked a little different, but the teams’ been very solid, and at the time I’m writing this, it is uncertain if he will suit up on Friday. Besides that I love the Wings in this matchup. They are way more physical than the Devils and it showed the last time they played, when the Wings routed them 5-3. I’ll be working early in the day, but man am I excited to get off work and go watch my Wings play.

Since I don’t have player props at the time of writing this, we are going to ride as a team for the game. The player props have been shaky anyways, so to start off I’m going with the Red Wings to score 3 or more goals. They cleared this number last time we played, and this bet has been consistent for us, so at those odds, I’m in love with it. The Wings have been very successful at winning games when they score 3 or more goals, so there’s no reason for me not to take them to win as well. They look really good right now and have proven that they can dominate the Devils. To wrap up these picks on Black Friday, I will be  parlaying them together to win some units for the holidays.

Picks

Red Wings ML +150 (1u)

Red Wings Total Goals o2.5 -115 (1u)

Parlayed Together +165 (1u)
