Detroit Red Wings Vs. Nashville Predators 10/12

Overview

Man was Thursday night a rough one. The game started promising as we saw the Red Wings take an early lead and dominate the rest of the first period, despite the Penguins tying it up at 1 apiece.  As the second period began, it seemed as though we had no gas in our tank. Pittsburgh came out firing, scoring 2 quick ones early in the 2nd. Husso didn’t look like himself, despite the first 2 goals not being his fault necessarily. As Talbot came in he played a good game, but it was too little too late.

While the game wasn’t a success by any measure, there were some bright spots to highlight. Newcomer, Vladimir Tarasenko looked phenomenal in his first start wearing red and white. As expected, he netted his first goal with the team and played a great game overall. Alex Debrincat also looked great out there, finishing just 1 shy of the hat trick. I was impressed with the powerplay as well. They seemed completely in sync with each other, producing numerous scoring chances. Tonight’s game offers the Red Wings a great opportunity for a bounce back.

Predictions

Starting the season with a disappointing loss isn’t the best recipe for success, but a bounce back comes tonight against the Nashville Predators. With his solid finish to game 1, Cam Talbot looks to bring home the Red Wings’ first W. In this game, I expect to see captain Dylan Larkin take command of his team. His impact in game 1 was nothing spectacular, so tonight he has the chance to come out hot and will his team to put pucks in the net.

I would love to see the defense step it up tonight and prevent high-scoring opportunities for the Preds. The Penguins got way too many opportunities in front of the net last game and that’s a big reason for our failure. If Talbot is going to play well tonight, they must take care of the front of the net. Juuse Saros is a great goaltender, so getting early shots on him is key to setting the tone. I expect the Red Wings to avenge the Tigers' loss in the playoffs and get the win tonight at home.
