Detroit Red Wings vs. New York Islanders 10/22

Overview

Opposite to how the two Rangers games went, the Wings easily claimed two wins of their own against the Predators on Saturday. What appeared to be a rough start by the Red Wings, was quickly flipped into dominance on their end after the Preds' second goal was called back due to offsides. Immediately after the reversal, Tarasenko was able to notch his second goal of the year, which was assisted by the potentially young star Marco Kasper. Captain Larkin gave the Wings the lead, being the only scorer in the second period, while Michigan native, Andrew Copp, got 2 later on to seal it. Lyon also looked good, getting his first win of the season, stopping 37 of the 39 shots that came his way.

While it was a great bounce-back after the rough series against New York, the Wings still technically have only beaten 1 team this year. Tonight, Detroit will look to get some revenge on New York, however not the one they’ve lost to. The Islanders are off to a pretty mediocre start with 6 points, 2 ahead of the Wings. Alex Lyon will be back in the net for the Wings tonight, and I know I’ve said this before, but I would love for the Wings to go on a little run here to end October. It starts tonight in New York (Long Island).

Predictions

Lalonde continues to confuse fans with his lineup choices. Despite playing a good game on Saturday, it is looking like Kasper is getting scratched tonight. While I’m not one to usually question the lineup, I don’t know how a kid who gets a point in a win, is getting taken out of the lineup. With that, I do like letting Alex Lyon stay in the crease after his win on Saturday. He’s a streaky player and if the Wings are going to end October on a positive note, they're going to need him to step up. The Red Wings were also able to finally capitalize on the powerplay, but I would love to see them average a goal a game since they seem to get a ton of them.

After a couple of games, I think it's time to let the Berggren bet die. With him moving down to the 4th line, it’s only going to be harder for him to get his first. Instead, I will be looking at winger Alex Debrincat to notch his third of the season. While he’s still producing, I’ve never seen someone miss more open nets. He’s due to go on a little run, so I expect him to get one in tonight's routing of the Islanders. I also like their position tonight after getting a few nights' rest, so I expect the team to play well tonight and get the win.
